En busca de una respuesta a la pregunta por la identidad latinoamericana, Partiquino ahonda en la literatura y las formas en que esta no ha podido dar cuenta de una identidad común y transversal. La búsqueda en personajes de Cortázar y García Márquez, será insuficiente si se limita, según cuenta, a buscar esta identidad dentro del Boom latinoamericano. Será por otra parte, Simeón Torrente, personaje de una novela del escritor Alvaro Salom Becerra, el cual cumplirá con algunas características simples que permitirán a cualquier lector identificarse en él.
