Tal como lo expresa su título, esta crónica es una especie de alabanza al ocio. Así como es criticado y condenado, el autor cuenta cómo muchos de los grandes descubrimientos y de las más famosas obras, fueron creadas en tiempos de ocio. Desde Newton hasta Cervantes, y aún otros, se han servido útilmente de momentos en lo que, sin estar atados a las obligaciones del diario vivir, han encontrado importantes respuestas y descubrimientos en las situaciones más inesperadas.
