A partir de la anécdota con una amiga, donde el tema fue la belleza que ella encontró en un cerro desprovisto de vegetación y color, el autor reflexiona sobre la subjetividad de las opiniones y concepciones respecto a la belleza. La forma en cómo la sensibilidad se afecta por lo familiar y lo conocido, o cómo aprendemos a encariñarnos con lugares, personas u objetos que nos acercan algún recuerdo, moviliza en el autor la necesidad de entender esta humana operación del cariño.
